Maria Schubert studied History and Political Science at the University of Tuebingen and the University of North Carolina in Greensboro between 2004 and 2011. From 2011 to 2016, she worked on her Ph.D. thesis at the University of Tuebingen and visited Emory University, Atlanta, as a visiting Ph.D. stundent in 2014. Her dissertation titled “We Shall Overcome.” The GDR and the American Civil Rights Movement (Schoeningh Verlag) was published in 2018. For three years until 2020, she was the CEO of adult education programs, Protestant Church District Soest. Since 2020 she is a postdoc at Ruhr-University Bochum and working on her project currently titled “Catholicism in the 1970s and 1980s in the FRG and the Green Party”. The project is part of the DFG-collaborative research center “Catholicism in the 1970s and 1980s in the Federal Republic of Germany”.
